European automobiles are not more susceptible to problems than any other automobile. In fact, many would argue that when you take care of your Beemer, Benz, MINI, or VW (among other models), it is more reliable than an Asian or Domestic automobile. We aren’t going to get into that argument right now. Rather, we here at East Coast EuroWerks would like to discuss some common European automotive repairs in many makes and models, all of which are fixable.
AC Condenser
Some Audi and VW models have a little bug in their AC condensers. Regular AC inspections and maintenance can help prevent this issue. We can spot a bad condenser and replace it right away.
Brakes
Brake maintenance is crucial no matter what you drive. Unfortunately, for the BMW 3 Series and VW’s little Passat, brake trouble can be common. Usually, replacing the parts can solve any concerns.
Clutch
Another common European car repair is the VW Golf’s clutch. If you drive a manual Golf, pay attention to how the clutch feels, how the transmission behaves, and bring it in at the first sign of trouble.
Electrical Problems
Asian, Domestic, and European automobiles all suffer from electrical issues these days because everything is electronic. Audi’s A3 and the BMW 3 Series are known for electrical trouble.
EGR Valve
Volkswagen had to eat a lot of crow over their EGR valves a few years back, and for good reason. The valves were insufficient in meeting emissions regulations and had faulty parts in them.
Gearbox Trouble
Both BMW and VW models can have gearbox trouble. This can be an expensive problem, and the 3 Series and Golf are the models that experience gearbox problems more often than other models.
Turbocharger
Part of what makes European automobiles so much fun to drive is their turbochargers. Problems with the turbocharger can lead to performance issues and frustrating engine trouble that you don’t need.
Window Regulator
Finally, if drive an Audi A5, you may have already had the window regulator changed. The power window regulator is a motor and when it burns out, you won’t be able to open and close the windows.
